You should have enough survival supplies to last each person for a week. You should have enough stored water to last a week as well and it is said a gallon a day per person. Remember to rotate food out so you don’t have a bunch of food that is out dated. You should also have medical supplies and have a book on applying first aide. Containers to catch rain water will be good to have around. You will want to get some water proof containers to put your food, medical supplies and clothes in. Try to store a solar powered radio away as well. If you can’t find a solar powered radio make sure you have enough batteries to last for a few weeks. Food is a must have for survival supplies. Without food we are not going to last too long. So make sure you put enough food up to last each person for a week and rotate it out so it doesn’t get spoiled. Store canned food that lasts a long time like canned soups and vegetables and foods like rice, wheat and beans and even peanut butter. Basically any type food that you eat that has a long shelves life. You might want to put salt and pepper and some seasonings in your survival supplies. Also pack some powdered milk away because you can drink it or use it to cook with.

Everyone will need water in their survival supplies. Some say to have 1 gallon per person for a week supply. Some are saying storing water in plastic is toxic so maybe you might want to store your water in glass jars if possible. It would be a good idea to have some kind of container to collect rain water like a bucket or a barrel. You will need to boil the rain water before using it. If you boil the water for at least 5 minutes after it starts boiling it should be ok to use.

It would be a good idea to pack away some plastic containers to put your food and cloths and such into to keep them dry and safe from bugs and rodents. Another good thing to use to store clothes in is the space savor bags. Using these vacuum bags will save you lots of space to store items for your survival kit. Clothes and bedding are bulky items by putting them into a space savor bag it will reduce the space needed to store that item.

A first aid kit is a must have for survival supplies. Make sure it is always full and if medication is in it make sure that it is not expired. Have plenty of band-aids and gauss, tape, anti-bacterial medicine. It is a wise idea to have a first aide book in your kit. With the book you can read how to heal an injury. You may want to put sisccors, tweezers, knife, thread and needle in your first aid kit a well. This way you will be able to give yourself stitches if needed too. Also something for headaches tooth aches and fevers are good to have in your survival kit. You will also want to make sure you have matches in that kit as well.

Some survival supplies that will be handy to have are some dishes and pots and pan. The pot and pans need to be able to tolerate an open flame because your electric stove will be out. You don’t need a lot of dishes just the basics a plate, bowl, glasses, and silverware. You just need enough to eat a meal per person. You can wash them after you use them so they stay clean so don’t forget the detergent. Don’t forget a manual can opener not electric one. You will also need some kind of stove or grill to cook on, so make sure you have what it takes to keep one burning for a week. What would be awesome to have in a survival kit is a battery powered generator. A gas powered generator is only as good as long as it has gas, so the battery one would be the better option.

Another good item to have in your survival supplies is a change of clothes for at least 7 days each. Along with a change in clothes are having sleeping blankets for everyone and pillows and possibly a tent big enough for everyone. Along with a change of clothes put an extra pair of shoes, try to have boots instead of shoes in your kit as well.

A solar powered radio would be good to have in your survival supplies too. If you don’t have a solar powered radio, then a battery operated radio will work. Remember to put enough batteries to last at least a month. Flash lights and candles would be a big plus in a kit too. Along with that oil lamps work well in that kind of situation as well.

Shampoo and soap, and toothpaste along with other toiletries is a must have in a survival kit as well. Baking soda works well for tooth paste.

Try to have some wood stacked up for emergencies for a heat source. If you own a gun, then you might want to put it close to your kit for emergencies. There are tons of things that we could put in a survival kit but the kit would end up being as large as your house.
